Later, after cmake, I cd'd but cmake already cached settings CMakeLists.

Deleting the file and cd'ing to build worked ok. Sounds like you've figured it out. Did you run into any subsequent problems getting things to run? No further problems.

Everything works like a charm. The only exception being problems with Intel drivers, but this is another story. I'm going to go ahead and close this issue. Feel free to re open if you have more questions.
